B.    Pen (black or blue) and pencil

C.    Loose-leaf composition paper (college ruled) NO FRINGE ON PAPER!

D.    Core literature novel or English literature textbook.

II. ASSIGNMENT PROCEDURES

A.     I do not accept late work for full credit unless you have a major problem (death in family, serious illness, etc.) or an excused absence.  All excuses must be verified by a parent or guardian.  If a paper is turned in a day late, I will give you only half credit.  I do not accept papers that are 2 or more days late.

B.     If you have called in sick the day an assignment is due, I will accept the assignment when you return to class.  You must be sick all day, however, not just a partial day.

C.     You are allowed only 1 “my computer died” excuse per year.  A computer malfunction excuse must be accompanied by a note from your parents.

D.     Your writing must reflect your own original thought.  Any plagiarism will result in a 0 on that assignment.  Review rules for citing ideas or words that are not your own.

III. TEST PROCEDURES

A. If you miss a test, you will make it up during class, lunch or another period the day you return unless you have been sick for an extended period of time.  In this case we will decide on a day that is suitable for the both of us.

B. Improper test procedures will result in a 0 on a quiz, test or writing assignment.

1.       Unauthorized note sheets

2.       Copying others’ work

3.       Giving students extra points on quizzes by not marking answers wrong.

IV. TARDY POLICY

      A.  You are tardy if you are not in your seat ten seconds after the bell rings.

B.    Three tardies = a referral to the attendance office; four tardies = a U in citizenship; seven tardies = you will be dropped from the class.

V.  BEHAVIORAL CLASS RULES

A.     In English class you work on English assignments first.  Any work done for another class will be confiscated and given to the teacher of that class.  If you are finished with your English assignments, you may work on an assignment from another class.

B.     Be respectful of other students’ differences.   Verbal attacks or put downs will result first in a warning and then in an interim.

C.     School policy dictates that eating is not permissible in class.  We do not want insects or rodents to visit our classroom, no matter how smart they are.

D.     Clean up all litter around your desk before you leave the room.

I understand the policies, procedures & rules of this class.  I also understand the consequences for breaking these rules and will take full responsibility for my actions:
