Year 2000 Student Projects

Marissa Artiano-Meditation

The effects of meditation on people’s beliefs in religion, and what people are trying to accomplish through meditation.

Elianna Bar-el-Voodoo

Vodoun, otherwise known as Voodoo, Vaudou, and Vodu, is the heritage of the ancient African nations that were exiled in the New World.  It is more than one thing.  It is medicine, justice, police, art, dance, music, as well as religious ritual.  It is the common ground upon which the children of the African New World Diaspora stand together.

I picked this subject because it sounded extremely interesting and I think that I can sufficiently portray the world of Vodoun.  I think that it is very important because not a lot of high school students know the significant morals and actions as well as specific rituals of Vodoun.   My approach is to interview students at Peninsula on their religious back round and then ask them what they know about Vodoun.  I will share my research as well as show a video clip on a specific ritual associated with Vodoun.

Heather Barnes-The Devil in History

This project is about how different religions see the devil, evil spirits or destroyers.  It will include Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism.

Raha Bigdell-Women

What are women’s roles in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism?  Who has more rights?  In my report I will show women in the viewpoints of different religions, proving who has the most respect.

Traci Campbell-Faith Healing

I will explore the similarities and differences between different religions and their ways of practicing healing through faith.  I will explore where the medical world stands on the issue, and if being healed by faith is really being cured, or if it is just a simple mind game.

Sharon Cho-

Nina Dorsett-Religious Dorsett

How do different religions view other religions and how do they treat people who are “non-believers”?  I intend to survey people at school in addition to my research.

Elia Fadlallah-Stigmata

I’m going to write about stigmata and what it means to society and especially religion as a whole.  I’m also going to focus on people who have gone through it and how it changed their lives.

Lindsey Fox-Miracles

Miracles are performed all around the world by various different revered religious figures, which I find absolutely fascinating!

Mona Ghasemi-Women in Islam

Clarifying some of the myths and realities about the quality of life for women in Islamic countries.

Anne Gilman-Music

My project will show the significance of music in religion.  The types of music and their role in various religions will be explored.

Kristin Graeber-Influence of religion on popular music

My project is a comparison of eastern and western religion’s influence on popular music.  For eastern, I plan to deal mainly with George Harrison’s experiences with the sitar and Ravi Shankar.  For western, I plan to deal mainly with U2 and Bono’s concept of God and the devil.  It’s going to be interesting and insightful!  I love music and I think it will be interesting to find out the differences between the two religions.

Kathryn Hammer-Cloning

I will focus on the ways that religion affects lives everyday in terms of impact on moral or ethical dilemmas. I will take a detailed look at the way each of the major religions handles the question of ethics.

Alex Han-Is prestige the answer to religion?

Christianity is the most broadly spread and known by the people through out the world.  It is an inevitable fact that Christianity is accepted by most people. Bible, the heart of Christianity, is it reliable?  Are the doctrines of number one leading religion relevant today?  How does Christianity differ from compared with other religions in every aspect?  My project is to reveal the reliability of Bible and it’s competency with the other religions?

Penney Jones-Pre-marital Sex

What do the different religions feel about sex before marriage?  Which do they prefer, pre-marital or post-marital sex?  What do they feel about sex in general?

Brittany Joseph-Angels

In my essay, I will be discussing and comparing the idea of angels and spirits in different religions.  I picked angels as my subject because I believe that society questions the existence of angels and spirits.

Allison Kawasaki-New Age

My research will include who the awaited Maitryn is, what his purpose is, what he has done and why people follow him.  Also signs and miracles related to the Maitryn such as crosses of lights, healing wells, peace miracles and many more.  Last there is transmission meditation.  I will explain how different this meditation is to compare to other types.

Alison Kitter-Weddings

I will compare different customs and traditions of weddings throughout different religious groups.

Allison Long-Mormonism compared to Christianity

I am doing my project on Mormonism and Christianity.  Many people believe they are the same, but in actuality they are two different religions.

Brandon Lucky-God

What exactly is God?  Is He a real person, or just a figment of a collective imagination?  My research will tell the history of the followers of God.  Also when and why God was created, why He is still here, and how God impacts past and present cultures.  Finally I will give my own thoughts on what God really is and why He is such a presence in society.

All through time, religion has helped and hurt the world.  In my essay I will provide examples supporting both sides.  I will also express my own personal opinion.

Christiana Reinhardt-Place of worship

Where do different religions go to worship, and what are holy places.

Mark Rollins-Creationism

Creationism and Evolution are the two theories of how the world began, came about, and is the way it is today.  Only evolution however provides proof to theories as opposed to relying on faith.

Kathyrn Sarmiento-The Afterlife

Is there such a thing as an afterlife?  Many questions on this topic are left unanswered.  I myself don’t know if I believe in an afterlife, but if what I read makes me believe, I would probably choose to believe.  Do you believe in an afterlife?

Stephanie Simper-Religious Sites

Kalyn Stern-Funerals

Death plays a large role in people’s lives.  I wish to compare the different ideas of death from different religions.  Also I’m comparing the different ceremonies each religion practices when someone dies.

Jonathan Tan-Reincarnation

Reincarnation is the concept that we are born from life to life continuing our existence until we realize our divine nature. Reincarnation has always been a heavily debated subject in the past few years. Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, it can happen to everyone so it is important to learn about the belief of reincarnation.
